Evonik Silica Aerosil R 972 is a hydrophobic gas-phase silica based on hydrophilic silica with a specific surface area of 130m2/g, which is treated with dimethyl dichlorosilane (DDS). The R in R972 represents "hydrophobic". The difference between different models of "R" products lies in their specific surface area and the organic groups carried on the surface of silica. The difference between Evonik Aerosil R974 and Evonik Aerosil R972 is that the former has a higher BET specific surface area.
